Members Newsletter
March 2010
Welcome
The committee of Eastbourne Borough Youth FC would like
to welcome you to our first members update. We invite you
to visit these pages from time to time to catch up on all
our latest news.
Race night
Details regarding our latest event can be found on our race night page. This promises to be a fun evening which will hopefully raise some money for both the youth and senior clubs, whilst giving you the chance of winning some of the prizes on offer. We hope you will be able to support this event by becoming an owner (£6) or a jockey (£2) of one of the horses in one of the night’s eight races. Children very welcome.
Fixture congestion
It has been somewhat frustrating losing so many weekends
to poor weather however we want to assure all our members
that canceling a fixture will only happen when all alternative
options have been considered. This may mean that a fixture
is swapped to the away venue or in extreme cases we may
need to relocate to a council pitch. We realise this is
not always ideal but we do appreciate the patience of our
members in these cases.
EBYFC tournament
This years tournament
will take place on the weekend of May 15th 16th. This event
helps ensure the survival of the club by raising vital funds.
Each of our squads will be allocated a task for this weekend
and we hope that you will be able to help us to put on the
high quality tournament our club has become known for.
Tasks will include assisting with the Tea Tent, BBQ Bouncy
Castle and organising traffic and selling programmes. Although we will be requesting assistance through your coaches please feel free to contact Allan Staples as tournement coordinator to pledge you support.
We also invite local companies to become involved by sponsoring age group competitions Sponsors will have their name associated with the competition for that age group, will get to present the trophy and will have an advert in the programme and be included in the tournament’s press releases and photographs, as well as inclusion on our website. If you or someone you know may be interested in sponsoring or advertising at our tournament please contact Paul Maynard our commercial manager.
If you or anyone you know would like to rent a “pitch” to run your own stall during the tournament please contact Paul Maynard for further details. “Pitches” are in limited supply and available on a first come first served basis.
Presentation evening 2010
We have now set a date of July 9th for this years presentation which will once again take place at the Kings Conference Centre, Hampden Park. We will confirm the start times nearer the date.
The format will be similar to last year although we hope to have some further surprises in store. If you have any digital photographs of our members either in training or during matches that you would like us to consider for inclusion in this years club DVD please arrange to send them to Allan Staples.
Current projects
We are currently working hard to complete the work on the
side pitch at Priory Lane. We have invested hard earned
funds from the past 14 years in a drainage system that will
permit us to maximise the area for playing football at the
senior site. The results so far have been highly satisfying
with the front pitch remaining playable where many games
are cancelled.
The work on the side pitch is making slow progress and
so we are putting out a request to all our members to come
down and help us to fill the remaining sand slits. Once
completed and after a good growing period this pitch will
provide another alternative for our teams. So far we have
completed 2/3 of the work with the main help coming from
the Under 8's, 15's, 13 Blacks and committee members. We
meet between 9:30 and 12:30 each Saturday morning and would
be very grateful to see new faces. (If you have a shovel
and a barrow these would be of great use!) -- Please note the work is due to be carried out on Saturday 20th March --
The Boot Room
We are launching a new online service enabling our memebers to advertise good quality items for sale. There is currently no charge for this service as we "test the water" to see how popular it is. You can get your free listing by registering at the Boot Room message board.
Coaching Staff
As you may be aware our coaching staff are all parents
of members who have stepped forward to take on the coaching
and management of a squad. These volunteers make no financial
gain from their commitment and pay membership fees and subs
like every other parent in the club. From time to time they
may need assistance with tasks such as collecting subs or
setting up the pitches on match days and we would hope that
everyone who is able to would assist the coach as much as
possible.
Committee
The Committee of EBYFC
consists of parents and coaches from within the club who
have stepped forward to take on roles that ensure individual
teams can exist. It is important to understand that without
volunteers who are willing to work outside of their own
squads the club could not exist.
Our Current committee is becoming increasingly stretched
by the demands associated with running a successful youth
football club. We are currently on the look out for willing
volunteers to come in and help out. Significantly we will
soon be loosing our Club Secretary and Fixtures Secretary,
Tony Manze, who after a commendable stint in both roles
will be stepping down as his son reaches the end of his
borough playing days. Luckily for us Tony has agreed to
stay on long enough to mentor his replacement but the process
of finding this person starts now.
If you have a few hours to spare each month and feel you
could make a significant contribution to the running of
our club we would love to hear from you. You can contact
me, Allan Staples,
in the first instance for an informal discussion.
We also have a need for assistance with many other roles
and projects so please get in touch.
DVD and photographs
There is still an opportunity to purchase photos from last
years presentation and the first DVD year book. More details
